i have a song (an mp3 file) that is 11 MB, and my brother has the same song, same quality and it’s only 5 MB. my ipod just happens to have a smaller memory than his but he doesnt want to share the file with me. does anybody know how to convert it to a smaller mp3 file? or if it’s a program, can anybody give me the download link for a freeware?

You would need to reduce the quality of the MP3. It’s likely the MP3 you have is 320kbps while his is only 128 or 160kbps. I believe Audacity would be able to do this for free.
First, how did you get the song? Well, that’s not important. The only way you might get that song you want for free is getting Frostwire (www.frostwire.com). Guranteed not to give you anything like viruses. Then you open it up, go through the installation and setup, and then search for the song. Once all the results anre up on Frostwire, click size and an arrow will point up next to the word size. Try getting the smallest one, but not abnormally small, like 2 mb. Mostly, those with 2mb are only part of the song weirdos put up on the Frostwire network. After getting Frostwire, you can download anything you want, any song, any photo.
Audacity is a good program but the long way round.
Try this free app.

Hi, I can recommend you a good Audio Converter which not only can convert between almost any audio format files, but also can edit audio files by trimming, cropping, etc. You can have a try it and convert your mp3 file to a smaller one: http://www.imoviesoft.com/products/audio-converter.html
